The honeyed aromas of melted beeswax fill the studio. Over the last 6 years Emily has developed a technique playing upon the ancient Egyptians encaustic method used to create death masks. She sculpts, etches and buffs oil paint into the beeswax, trapping and exposing forgotten layers as she does so, creating an unpredictability that gives the waxy paintings a greater depth and a life of their own.
'HAIR' a group exhibition curated by Emily is currently on show at Chelsea Waterside Art Space, SW1W 8QP until the 17th January 2018. If you would like to be on Emily's mailing list please do send her a message.
